History

Bicknell Building Supply was started over 50 years ago by Robert R. and Richard F. Bicknell. The two brothers began to operate a Sand, Gravel and Trucking Business in 1949. It was only fit to call this business, Bicknell Brothers. On October 1, 1970 Bicknell Brothers added a Sand, Gravel, and Concrete Block business by purchasing Putnam-Hawley. The purchase of Putnam-Hawley created Bicknell Bros. Inc.

On October 1, 1973 Bicknell Bros. Inc, purchased Putnam-Hawley Building Materials, located on US route 11. On October 1, 1986 Bicknell Bros. Inc. was purchased by Robert D. Bicknell, John Bicknell and David Burkett. The three men made up The Bicknell Corporation. Under The Bicknell Corporation, Bicknell Building Supply was created from Bicknell Bros. Inc. In the years to follow, Bicknell Building Supply has become a full service lumber yard and building materials store.

On October 1, 2004, Bicknell Building Supply added a TV and Appliance Center, formerly Snell’s Appliance.

On December 15, 2010, The Bicknell Corporation purchased SummerHaven Pool, Hearth & Spa. We sell pools, spas, hearth products, BBQ products & Outdoor Living.

On January 1, 2012 the Bicknell Corporation purchased Northern Interiors in downtown Potsdam. The store sells fine furniture, mattresses, window treatments and interior design. Our TV & Appliance center has moved into the store and it has been renamed, Bicknell Appliance and Home Interiors.
